नालंदा ओपन यूनिवर्सिटी (NOU) बिहार राज्य, भारत में पटना में एक विश्वविद्यालय है। यह बिहार का एकमात्र विश्वविद्यालय है जो दूरस्थ और खुली शिक्षा के माध्यम से शिक्षा प्रदान करता है। नालंदा ओपन यूनिवर्सिटी डिग्री / डिप्लोमा / प्रमाण पत्र उच्च अध्ययन, सार्वजनिक और निजी क्षेत्र के रोजगार और सेवा प्रचार के लिए पात्र हैं। इसे विश्वविद्यालय अनुदान आयोग (UGC) द्वारा मान्यता प्राप्त है। यह भारतीय विश्वविद्यालयों के संघ का एक सदस्य है जो मुख्य रूप से भारत में विश्वविद्यालयों द्वारा सम्मानित डिग्री / डिप्लोमा की मान्यता से संबंधित है, जो विश्वविद्यालय अनुदान आयोग, नई दिल्ली और विदेशों में उच्च डिग्री पाठ्यक्रमों में प्रवेश के उद्देश्य से मान्यता प्राप्त हैविश्वविद्यालय की स्थापना मार्च 1987 में बिहार सरकार द्वारा जारी एक अध्यादेश द्वारा की गई थी।
यह बिहार राज्य का एकमात्र विश्वविद्यालय है, जो विशेष रूप से दूरस्थ शिक्षा के माध्यम से शिक्षा प्रदान करने के लिए है। 1995 में, बिहार के विधायिका द्वारा नालंदा ओपन यूनिवर्सिटी एक्ट पारित किया गया था और उसके बाद इस विश्वविद्यालय को पारित अधिनियम के अधिकार और अधिकार क्षेत्र में लाया गया था। इसका नाम नालंदा के प्रसिद्ध बौद्ध नालंदा विश्वविद्यालय, सीखने की प्राचीन सीट के नाम पर रखा गया है।
